Christmas in July - Day 5

Today is the final day of Christmas in July.  I am already having so much fun creating Christmas crafts, and I can hardly wait to make more.  This week while creating, I have been listening to favorite Christmas songs from Burl Ives,  Brenda Lee and Bing Crosby.   This week has reminded me of a few Christmas memories from the past, like when I told my kids that Burl Ives was my grandpa.  I have always loved how jolly he is and his voice is very calming and joyful to me.  He's not really my grandpa, but I would have liked that I think.  I was also remembering when we were living in Franklin, Tennessee and my husband surprised me by taking me to see Brenda Lee in concert.  She really surprised me at how personable she is.  And she is quite the family person because I think half the audience was related to her and came to support her. And, of course, Brenda Lee's Rockin Around the Christmas tree always reminds me of the movie, Home Alone, which is one of my favorite Christmas movies.   Wonderful times for sure and I can't wait to make more.

The card I created today was inspired by a card created by the designers at  Stampin' Up! home office, and is featured in the current annual catalog.   I have used the Christmas Pines stamp set this week a few times because something about it just seems so nostalgic to me.  It reminds me of small town Christmas decorations, people greeting each other while doing their holiday shopping and looking outdoors through an iced glazed window.   It's peaceful.  The greetings included in the set just sum up all of the feelings of Christmas to me.  And the framelits coordinate perfectly with the stamp set to give all of your projects texture and depth.

Here are the products I used to create this card:

  • Sheet Music stamp set (item #143970
  • Christmas Pines Stamp Set (item #142049)
  • Pretty Pines Thinlit dies (item #141851)
  • 1/8" red ribbon (item #144631)
  • Real Red cardstock (item #102482)
  • Early Espresso cardstock (item #119686)
  • Crumb Cake cardstock (item #120953)
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock (item #101650)
  • Gold Foil paper (item #132622)
  • Real Red Ink (item #147084)
  • Soft Suede Ink (item #147115)
  • Old Olive Ink (item #147090)
  • Sponge Dauber (item #133773)
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item #110755)

Here is how I created the card:

  • Cut the crumb cake cardstock to 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and score at 4 1/4".  Fold in half and burnish with a bone folder
  • Cut a piece of real red cardstock to 4" x 5 1/4" and attach to the front of the card base
  • Ink the Sheet Music stamp using Soft Suede Ink and stamp onto a piece of very vanilla cardstock cut to 3 3/4" x 5"
  • Stamp the greeting directly to the lower right corner using real red ink.
  • Ink the pine swag stamp using old olive ink and stamp as shown in the top left corner of the music sheet cardstock.  NOTE:  I used both swag stamps.  One has thinner needles and one has thick.  I layered them slightly.
  • Cut 2 pine swags using old olive cardstock and 2 pinecones using old espresso cardstock.  Cut 2 greenery pieces using the gold foil paper.  Attach these pieces as shown to the upper left corner
  • Tie a bow with the 1/8" red ribbon and attach at the top of the pinecones using a glue dot
I hope that you have enjoyed Christmas in July.  It won't be long and we will be back to creating Christmas crafts.  Enjoy the rest of your summer, and make good memories.
