Christmas In July - Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of our celebration of Christmas in July.  Today I am creating tags for gifts, because we can never have enough tags. During the holidays, I use gift tags for baked goods, candy treats, bottles of wine and packaged gifts.  There's a homemade gift tag for everything!!!  I created these tags using the Seasonal Chums stamp set and coordinating framelits.  This is the same cute reindeer that I used for the card I created for Christmas in July - Day 2.

Fun fact about Christmas in July.  Did you know that during World War II, Christmas in July was used as a  way to promote an early Christmas mailing campaign for those serving overseas?

I like creating my own tags for Christmas gifts.  I know that I could easily go to the store and purchase a few packages of the stick on type, but making gift tags is actually fun and relaxing for me.  I like using up the small scrap pieces and arranging each piece in a way that makes them look festive and merry.  And during the holidays, I like to be all about festive and merry.

Here are the supplies I used to create the tags:

  • scallop tag topper (item #133324)
  • stitched framelits (item $145372)
  • under the mistletoe designer series paper (item #146921)
  • layering circles framelits (item #141705)
  • Seasonal chums stamp set (item #144948)
  • seasonal tags framelits (item #144685)
  • Cotton Ribbon - red (item #146925)
  • metallic edge ribbon (item #144213)
  • real red ink (item #147084)
  • rhinestones (item #144220)
  • real red cardstock (item #102482)
  • whisper white cardstock (item #100730)
  • crumb cake cardstock (item #120953)
  • pool party cardstock (item #122924)
  • stampin blends markers old olive dark (item #144573), cherry cobbler light (item #144576), suede light and dark (item #147273), daffodil delight dark (item #144585)
  • smokey slate light (item #145054), petal pink light (item $146866) pool party light (item#144594)

Tips for creating gift tags:

  • I created the tag bases by cutting a piece of cardstock to 2" x 4 1/4" and then I punched it with the scalloped tag topper.
  • designer paper strip for the center of the card is cut to 2" x 2" or 2" x 1 1/2".
  • Snowflakes and trees are cut from framelits found in the seasonal tags framelits
  • leave ribbon longer to tie directly to your package or adhere onto package using tape over the ribbon
