Stampin' Up! Team Challenge

Card Challenge with my Glitter Brigade Team

Each week my downline, affectionately called The Glitter Brigade, and I,  like to creatively challenge ourselves.  This week we chose to create a background using stamps, ink or anything else.  The only catch is that we could not use designer paper.  I chose to use the new Pattern Party Decorative Masks.  This was not the original design I had in mind, but I am very pleased with how this card turned out.

What I used to make this card:

  • 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" berry burst card base scored at 4 1/4"
  • whisper white cardstock cut at 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Layering Circle Framelits (item #141705) largest scallop circle used with old olive cardstock
  • Stitched framelits (item #145372) largest circle used with whisper white cardstock
  • Bunch of Blossoms stamp set (item #141573)
  • Blossom Builder Punch (item #141469)
  • Delicate White Doilies (item #141701)
  • Rhinestone basic jewels (item #144220)
  • 1/8" sheer ribbon old olive (item #144171)
  • Berry Burst Ink
  • Sponge daubers

How I created this card:

  • Lay the lattice stencil on top of the  4"x 5 1/4" whisper white cardstock
  • Ink the sponge dauber using berry burst ink.  Sponge a small amount of the ink off the first time onto scrap paper.  It is easier to add ink but you cannot take it away once it is sponged onto your card.  Carefully holding the stencil in place, sponge as much or as little ink as you like onto the whisper white cardstock
  • wrap the 1/8" old olive ribbon around the stenciled piece two times and tie a bow.  This piece can now be attached to your card front
  • Use the layering circle framelits to cut the largest scallop circle using old olive cardstock
  • Cut the largest circle from the stitched framelits using whisper white
  • stamp greeting onto the white circle using black ink and attach to the old olive scallop circle
  • put adhesive onto the back of the old olive piece and place 1/4 of a delicate doilie as shown
  • attach the circle pieces, along with the doilie attached to the front of the card
  • stamp the flower images onto whisper white cardstock using berry burst ink.  For the first layer of the flower, I stamped the ink off once then stamped onto my cardstock.  The second layer I did not stamp off to give a deeper color to the flowers
  • punch flowers out using the blossom builder punch
  • punch leaves out using blossom builder punch and old olive cardstock
  • attach to card as shown.  One flower has been raised using a dimensional
  • place rhinestones as shown or where you like them best
I hope that you liked this project today.  If you need supplies for this, or any other project you may be working on, I would love to be your demonstrator.  Please visit my store today.

I hope your day is wonderful.

Happy Stamping,

Everything is better with Pigs! and Stampin' Up!

This little piggy is going to bring someone cheer....

Today's post involves the three little pigs.  As I posted the other day, I just love how whimsical this set is.  You can use this stamp set for so many occasions (non serious ones,  of course).  You can send hog and kisses to someone, encouragement, thank you, love you, or you can simply tell someone how happy they make you.   Each month I mail out Random Acts of Kindness, or simply called RAK's.  They are cards to random people who are not expecting them.    This month I think I will use this set to send cheer through the mail.  I hope they will enjoy this set as much as I do.

What I used to create this card:

  • early espresso cardstock cut to 1 5/8" x 1 5/8" (3 pieces)
  • shimmer white cardstock   cut to 1 3/8" x 1 3/8" (3 pieces)
  • crumb cake card base cut at 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • crumb cake cardstock cut at 4" x 5 1/4"
  • 1/2" x 1 3/4" shimmer white
  • ink colors:  real red, crumb cake, black, powder pink, daffodil delight
  • pinewood planks embossing folder (item  #143708)
  • Classic weave ribbon - white (item #144159)
  • This little Piggy stamp set, clear (item #143922)
  • aqua painter

How I created this card

  • ink up the pinewood planks embossing folder by opening your ink pad and applying ink going in one direction

  • after the embossing folder is inked up (doesn't need to be totally inked, just random), put the 4" x 5 1/4" paper into the folder and run through the big shot **** (please see note below)
  • rinse the embossing folder with warm water and the ink will come right off
  • stamp the 3 pigs of your choice using stazon ink  onto the 1 3/8" x 1 3/8" white cardstock
  • using your aqua painter, color the 3 pigs using powder pink and daffodil delight ink
  • attach the 3 stamped images to the 1 5/8" x 1 5/8" early espresso pieces then attach to the front of the card as shown
  • place ribbon onto the front of the card as shown and secure BEFORE attaching to the card base
  • attach to card base
  • stamp greeting onto the 1/2" x 1 3/4" white cardstock and cut a banner on either end
  • attach greeting using dimensionals

****Please note that the embossing folder used is one of Stampin' Up!'s new dynamic textured embossing folders.  You will only need to use one of the clear cutting boards when running your bolder through the Big Shot.

I hope you have enjoyed another sample using the stamp set "This Little Piggy".  If you would like to order supplies for this, or any other project you may be doing, I would love to be your demonstrator.  Please visit my Stampin' Up! store

Happy Stamping,

Your daily dose of turtle cuteness

Every Monday you will find me volunteering at the turtle yard.  I look forward each week to seeing how our patients are doing, and how they have improved.  I also look forward to learning when they will be released.  Last week we released two Loggerhead sea turtles named Krebster and Dr. Paul.  Turtle releases are quite the event, so if you ever get the chance, I definitely encourage you to go. They can be short lived, depending on how fast the turtle slides back into the ocean, but it's so fun waiting for them to arrive, watching the hospital staff place the turtle in the sand, and then waiting for the turtle to smell the warm salty ocean and go!!!  It's always a little sad to me, I think that's the mom in me, because I just want them to be safe and live to be 100.

Yesterday we had lots of hatchlings. Hatchings end up at our facility for a few reasons.  They could get washed back and not have enough energy to get out to the seaweed sea where they will live for several years (at this point they are called wash backs not hatchlings), or they could get distracted by white lights from cars, houses or cell phones.  People bring them to us, we make sure they are strong enough to be released, then we release them each night.  Sometimes they even get a boat ride out to the sargasm sea (this is a real place, the only sea not bound by land).  Their swim to the seaweed could be anywhere from 5-10 miles.   Anyways, today I wanted to share a bit of my turtle life with you instead of a card.  So I am sharing pictures of the hatchlings.  Aren't they super cute?  Two of the little turtles got caught holding flippers, but in reality they are very solitary animals in the sea.  It's not like in Finding Nemo where they all swim together.  Sad but true.  I guess they like it that way.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the hatchlings today.  If you would like to learn more about our rehabilitation of the sea turtles, please visit our site marinelife.org.  You can also follow any of the sea turtles that are currently being tracked by clicking on their picture.

Making Sunday Magical with Magical Mermaid from Stampin' Up!

I think Sunday's are magical, don't you?  There is finally a break from the long, stressful week to take a deep breath and spend time relaxing with family and friends.   Today my son and husband and I are going out to lunch, then running a few errands and stopping by the ocean to take in the magical ocean breeze.  The ocean always refreshes me and gives me new life.  It is powerful, yet so beautiful.  Who knows, maybe I'll even see a magical mermaid while I'm there.

I created this card for a 3 year old little girl who loves to craft with her mama.  Won't she be excited to receive her very own mail!!!!!

Wishing you a relaxing rest of your Sunday afternoon.  See you tomorrow.

Stampin' Up! This Little Piggy

I finally had some time to play with the pigs.  Not on the farm but in my craft room.  It was so MUCH fun.  Now that I have created this card, I have so many card ideas running through my crafty little mind.  How cute would a Santa Pig for Christmas be?  What would you create with this fun set of pigs?

What you need to create this card:

  • Powder pink card base cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
  • Basic Black cardstock cut at 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Whisper white cardstock cut at 3 3/4" x 5"
  • scrap of powder pink cardstock to stamp 3 pigs
  • crumb cake ink, pool party ink, black ink  and daffodil delight marker
  • this little piggy stamp set and timeless textures stamp set
How to create this card:

  • fold powder pink cardstock on score line
  • adhere basic black cardstock to the front of the card base
  • stamp 3 pigs onto scrap powder pink cardstock and cut out using paper snips
  • using an aqua painter, create sky and mud with pool party and crumb cake ink
  • stamp splotches of mud with the timeless textures stamp set
  • adhere the 3 3/4" x 5" white cardstock to the top of the black cardstock
  • adhere the 3 pigs, standing on top of each other, to the front of the white cardstock
  • ink flower and stem part of the stamp only and stamp onto card as shown.  Use marker to extend the stem if necessary
  • stamp 3 clouds in the sky using pool party ink
  • stamp a greeting using the this little piggy stamp set and banner cut the right edge.  Adhere to card
Now decide who you will send this fun card to, write a greeting inside, sign your name and put it into the mailbox.  Life is short.  Let someone know you are thinking of them and that they make you happy.  Have a most awesome day and I will see you tomorrow.
