Twelve Days of Valentines Day 10 - An Explosion Box Video

When I first started the twelve days of valentines, I knew I wanted to share some treat ideas with you, as well as cards.  I absolutely love this explosion box.  It's so much FUN because the receiver really has no idea that the card will pop open, and there, right in the middle of their beautiful box is a delicious treat.  I created a video for you so that you can create this box too!  There are a few pieces to cut and score, but it really goes together very quickly, as you will see in the video.  I hope you enjoy making this box as much as I did.  Check out the video by clicking RIGHT HERE!!!

Twelve Days of Valentines Day 9 - Conversation Heart Valentine

Do you remember the boxes of conversation hearts we use to get as kids?  I wish I had saved some of those boxes over the years to compare how the greetings have changed over time.   Last time I had some, they had greetings like "text me" or "call me".  I remember greetings of  "I dig you" and "luv you".  Which greetings do you remember?

I created today's card using the stamp set that came with January's Paper Pumpkin kit.  I had so much fun!!!  In addition to being able to create cute Valentine treats, I was able to create some really fun cards with this set too.  For this card, I used real red and melon mambo, but I think it would also be super cute using pastel colors like the real conversation hearts.

Here's what you'll need to create this card:

  • melon mambo cardstock cut to 5 1/2" x 8 1/2
  • whisper white cardstock cut to 4" x 5 1/4"
  • real red ink
  • melon mambo ink
  • Stampin' Up! watercolor pencils
  • aqua painter
Randomly stamp the heart outline and the solid red heart onto the whisper white cardstock.  Using the melon mambo watercolor pencil, color in the outlined hearts, then lightly go over each colored heart with a slightly damp aqua painter (make sure you remove most of the water from the bristles). Once the hearts have dried, use real red ink the stamp your conversation greetings onto the hearts.

Twelve Days of Valentines Day 8 - A Hidden Message in a Heart

Today's card has a fun technique that I think you're going to like.  The heart on the front flips up for a hidden message to tell your loved one just how much they mean to you.  Let me show you how it's made.

Here's what you will need to make this card:

  • red cardstock cut at 8 1/2" x 5 1/2"
  • whisper white cardstock cut at 4" x 5 1/4"
  • designer paper cut at 4" x 3"
  • Sweet & sassy framelits
  • silver glimmer paper
  • Love notes framelits (item bundle with sealed with love stamp set  144705)
  • Sealed with Love stamp set
  • real red ink
  • melon mambo ink
  • real read cardstock cut at 3 5/8" x 6", folded in half
  • whisper white cardstock cut to 3/4" x 2 1/2 (for love note greeting)
I started this card by stamping the lips in real red and melon mambo ink colors on the top half of the 4" x 5 1/4" whisper white cardstock.  I then adhered the designer paper onto the bottom half of this piece and adhered to the front of the card base.  I used the love notes framelits to cut the arrow from the silver glimmer paper.  Stamp the "love note" onto the 3/4" x 2 1/2" cardstock and cut the edges using your paper snips.

To create the heart you will need the piece of real red 3 5/8" x 6" that is folded in half, and the largest heart from the sweet & sassy framelits.  Arrange the framelits onto the red cardstock, into your Big Shot, keeping the fold at the top as shown in the image below.  Make sure the folded edge is under the TOP of the heart, and the heart is slightly off of the cardstock.  This is what will hold your heart together once the heart is cut out.   Stamp a message inside your heart then adhere it to the front of the card.  Add the "Love Note" and silver glimmer arrow and you're ready to give this card to your favorite valentine.

12 Days of Valentines Day 7 - A Fancy Fold Valentine

Sometimes we need a Valentine, or any card for that matter, that requires a little WOW!  I hope today's card is that wow for you.  I originally created this card to use as a birthday invitation, but it can be modified for any occasion.  Let me show you how to create this card.

Here's what you'll need to make this card:
  • 4 1/4" x 11" whisper white card base scored at 1 1/2" and 5 1/2"
  • 3 1/4" x 5" real red card stock (for insert)
  • 3" x 4 3/4" whisper white card stock (for insert)
  • Sending Love designer paper cut at 4" x 3" and 4" x 1 3/8"
  • Lace doilie cut in 1/2
  • Sealed with Love stamp set (item #142815)
  • largest sassy heart cut from Sweet & sassy framelets in real red (item number 141707)
  • tear & tape
  • silver ribbon
  • 3/4" x 3" strip of whisper white cardstock (for greeting)
  • real red ink
Fold all score lines using a bone folder.  Adhere 3"x4" designer paper to the front of the card (on the bottom half) under the 1 1/2" score line, keeping a 1/4" margin at the bottom of the card.  Fold the 1 1/2" fold down onto the designer paper and adhere with snail or fast fuse adhesive.  Attach the 1 3/8" x 4" designer paper onto the flap of the card.  Place the lace doilie onto the 1 3/8" flap using snail, then attach the heart using dimensionals.  Stamp greeting onto 3/4" x 3" using real red ink.  Adhere this piece onto the red heart.

Fold the front flap down (the part that you just decorated) and place tear & tape along the full length of the two outer edges. (inside the side of the card with the 1 3/8" flap) )  This will create a pocket for the insert.

Stamp Happy Valentines Day and hearts onto the 3" x 4 3/4" whisper white cardstock using real red ink, then attach to the 3 1/4" x 5".  This is the insert that can be pulled out of the card.  Attach a small piece of silver or red ribbon to the top of the insert using the hand held stapler.

12 Days of Valentines Day 6 - A Valentine to roar about

Today's valentine was created using a stamp set from the Stampin' Up! annual catalog called No Bones About It.  This stamp set can be used year round for birthday invites and cards, party favors and so much more.

Here's what you need to make this card:

  • No Bones about it stamp set
  • Heart punch and greeting
  • white embossing powder, versamark ink and heat tool
  • whisper white card base cut at 4 1/4" x 11"
  • real red cardstock cut at 4" x 3"
  • whisper white cardstock cut at 2 3/4" x 3 3/4"
  • sending love designer series stack cut at 2" x 4 1/4"
  • cucumber crush ink (item 138324)
  • 3/4" stitched satin ribbon (item 141693)
Fold the 4 1/4 x 11 whisper white cardstock in half, securing the fold with a bone folder.  Adhere the 3" x 4" real red cardstock to the whisper white card base leaving a 1/4" margin at the top.  Stamp the dinosaur image onto the 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" whisper white cardstock, using cucumber crush ink.  Stamp a greeting onto the heart with versamark ink, then coat with white embossing power.  Set the powder using the heat tool.  Adhere the heart to the upper left of the dinosaur and draw a balloon string using a black marker.  Adhere the whisper white piece onto the real red.  Next adhere the designer paper onto the bottom half of the card, leaving 1/4"  of the card base showing at the bottom edge.  Lastly, wrap the satin ribbon around the card and tie a knot to complete the card.  Now you are ready to send it off to your favorite valentine.

Twelve Days of Valentines #3 - Your Love Takes Me Away!!

Have you ever had a stamp set that you just cannot put down?  This stamp set, Lift Me Up by Stampin' Up! is one of those sets for me.  At first I was thinking what a great set this will be to make masculine cards that I need to mail out, but then this Valentine idea hit me.  I think it's simple, but says so much.  Kinda like "your love puts me on cloud 9" or "your love lifts me higher and higher".  Actually, I think there might be a song that really says that.

Here's what you need:

Card base in watermelon wonder cut at 8 1/2" x 5 1/2"
Whisper White cut at 4" x 5 1/4"
Hot air Balloon cut from watermelon wonder
2 clouds cut from whisper white
heart stamped in watermelon wonder with image from lift me up and cut out with up & away framelits
Pool party ink pad
"love" cut from Sunshine Wishes framelits using watermelon wonder cardstock

I stamped the cloud image randomly on the 4 x 5 1/4" piece of whisper white using pool party ink.  I adhered the cloud to the whisper white cardstock at a slight angle.  I adhered the larger cloud using fast fuse and the smaller cloud using a dimensional.  I also adhered the heart using a dimensional.  Lastly, I adhered the word love using tombo glue.

Twelve Days of Valentines #2 - A Valentine Treat

I like reminiscing of my childhood school days when we made or bought Valentines for everyone in the classroom.  Do you remember decorating a bag or box to put all of those fun valentines in?  And then the day finally came where you could open all those small white envelopes with the valentines that had been carefully signed and folded in half by each of your friends.  Along with the valentines came a fun day of treats and, if you were lucky enough, a special treat from your very favorite Valentine.  Oh how I miss those days.

The treat I am sharing with you today reminds me of something I might have tried to make as a kid.  Probably not quite so fancy, with the designer paper and punches, but as a kid, I really liked crafting things to give to my friends.  I remember cutting out many valentine hearts with red, purple and pink. This treat is simple, made with a 2x2 Ghirardelli chocolate square, but would be sure bring a smile to anyone who would be receiving it.  I plan to make them to give away to my mail carrier, cashiers and neighbors to show my appreciation to them.  I hope you will give it a try too.

Here are the directions, along with an image.  Cut a piece of real red cardstock to 2" x 6 1/8". Score on the long side at 2 7/8" and 3 1/4".  Punch both ends with the scallop tag topper punch (item #133324).  Fold on score lines and set aside.  Cut a piece of your favorite designer series paper to 2" x 6".  I used the 6x6 Sending Love paper Stack from the Occasions catalog (item #142733).  Score this designer paper at 1 5/8", 2", 4" and 4 3/8".  Fold on all score lines.  With the real red cardstock folded on score lines, place a 2x2 Ghirardelli square inside and tie a bow through the holes in the tag topper. Place the piece of designer paper around the treat and adhere along the back where the two ends meet.  Do not place adhesive all around as this piece is intended to act as a belly band only.  You may decorate the front with hearts or stamps.  I used the Sealed With Love stamp set (item # 142815) to decorate mine.

I hope you will enjoy making these valentine treats.  Stop back tomorrow for a fun valentine card idea.
