Christmas in July - Day 1

Welcome to Christmas in July here on my blog.  This week I will be sharing five Christmas project ideas with you to get a jump start on your holiday season.    It seems as though the holiday season gets busy very quickly, and this year I am planning to create as many items ahead of time as possible so  that I can enjoy a little more family and fun time.  I hope you will join me.

Over on my Facebook group this week I asked the question, where did Christmas in July originate?  I did a google search and I came up with lots of different answers including other countries who celebrate in July because this is the time of year that it is cold for them  and a celebration that began almost 100 years ago down south because celebrating Christmas any time of year is just fun.   No matter the reason it started, I think it is a great time to get a jump start on the holidays.

My friend Elaine shared that every July, her sister sends her a gift to celebrate Christmas in July.  I actually had no idea that people actually sent or gave gifts.  WOW!!!  I love this idea.  I told her I was going to start this tradition with my family next year, but then I wondered, why should I wait until next year?  In the spirit of Christmas and holiday gift giving,  I want to give you a gift for making a purchase from now until the end of July.

  • spend $50.00 and receive a free package of Kraft Pillow Boxes (10 count)
  • spend $75.00 and receive a free classic stampin ink pad of your choice
  • spend $100.00 and receive a free embossing folder of your choice

The first project I'm sharing with you today uses these pretty silver gable boxes. These boxes are also available in the annual catalog in white.   They are big enough to put a small gift in, or you could also put some yummy treats inside.  What would you put in yours?  Tea light candles, candies, homemade fudge?  I think these would be great to give to coworkers, friends and neighbors  to say "I'm thinking of you this Christmas season".   They would also be great to decorate for secret santa gifts.  The possibilities are endless.

Here are images of some of the items used for today's project:

Gable boxes

Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper

Pretty Pines Framelits

Christmas Pines Stamp Set

Here's what I used to create this project:

  • Christmas Pines stamp set (item #142049)
  • Pretty Pines framelits (item #141851)
  • Nature Sings stamp set (item #144406)
  • Under the mistletoe designer series paper (item #146921)
  • Mini Gable boxes (item #145568)
  • Early Espresso Cardstock (item #119686)
  • Old olive cardstock (item #100702)
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock (item #146981)
  • Real Red cardstock (item #102482)
  • Red Rhinestones (item #146924)
  • Everyday Label punch (itgem #144668)
  • 1 3/4" circle punch (item #119850)
  • Tear & Tape or other strong adhesive

Here's how I created the project:

  • Assemble the box
  • Cut a strip of your choice of designer series paper to 2" x 12".  Attach Tear & Tape to the box along the top and bottom edges, as shown below.  Once the tear & tape is attached, remove backing and carefully adhere the designer paper. There will be a small gap in the front where the 2 pieces meet.  The Everyday Label will cover this.

  • Stamp a greeting using real red ink.  I used the greeting from the Nature Sings stamp set. Punch out using the 1 3/4" circle punch.
  • Punch an Everyday Label using shaded spruce cardstock and adhere the circle in the center.  Attach this piece to the front of the box where the designer paper comes together, using a dimensional.   This will fill any gap between the two.
  • Cut pine sprigs, bows, greenery and pinecones using cardstock listed above.

  • Attach the greenery, pinecones and bows using liquid adhesive.
  • Attach 3 red rhinestones to the greeting circle as shown.

I hope that you have enjoyed today's Christmas project.  Stop back tomorrow to see what else I have been creating for Christmas in July.
