Twelve Weeks of Christmas - Week 2

Smitten Mitten Treat Holder

It's week 2 of the Twelve Days of Christmas, and today I have a really cute treat holder for you to create.  I used starlight mints, but you can use any small treat such as chocolates, cookies or candies.

Here is today's project, along with a side view.

Here's what I used to create the treat holder:

  • real red cardstock cut at 2" x 11", scored at 4 3/4" and 6 1/4"
  • whisper white cardstock cut at 2" x 7". scored at 1 1/4", 2 1/2", 4 1/2" and 5 3/4"
  • gusseted cello bag (item #141704)
  • 1/8" real red ribbon (item #144631)
  • mini tinsel trim (item #144636)
  • scallop tag topper (item #133324)
  • Smitten Mitten bundle (item #146070)
  • whisper white cardstock cut at 3/4" x 2"
  • small garden green piece for mitten
  • small silver glimmer piece for mitten
  • real red ink

Here's how I created the treat holder:

  • After scoring the real red 2" x 11" piece, use the tag topper and punch both ends
  • cut a piece of the silver mini tinsel trim.  While holding both tag topper pieces together (front and back) thread the tinsel trim through both pieces and tie a bow
  • cut 1" off the top of a gusseted cello bag and fill with treats
  • Use 1/8" ribbon and tie a bow to close the cello bag
  • place the cello bag inside of the real red holder
  • fold on all score lines of the whisper white 2" x 7" cardstock piece, and use your bone folder to make sure the folds are well creased
  • wrap the 2" x 7"  white piece around the red cardstock holder, making sure that the score lines match up to each of the corners of the real red holder piece (see side view above)
  • use fast fuse or tear tape to secure the two edges of the band on the back of the treat holder

  • using the framelits in the Smitten Mitten bundle, cut out the patterned mitten using garden green cardstock.  Cut the solid mitten (the one that matches the direction of the patterned mitten) using silver glimmer paper.  Cut a cuff using whisper white.  Adhere these pieces together,  using the adhesive of your choice.  The silver piece will be on the bottom layer, followed by the garden green patterned mitten and the cuff on the top.  Using dimensionals, attach the mitten to the front of the holder as shown above. making sure that the dimensionals are secured to the white belly band only,  to allow for the removal of this band.
  • using real red ink, stamp the to/from image onto the 3/4" x 2" whisper white piece and attach as shown
